    Info and Specifications

The 2020 Tadano GR-1000XL-3 is a high-performance hydraulic rough terrain crane engineered for demanding lifting applications across construction, infrastructure, industrial maintenance, mining, energy and heavy engineering projects. Combining a 100 US ton (90.7 metric ton) lifting capacity with a 47-metre five-section telescopic boom, the GR-1000XL-3 provides an excellent balance of lifting power, reach, mobility and job-site versatility.

Built by Tadano, the GR-1000XL-3 is designed to operate in challenging terrain while providing the precision and stability required for demanding crane operations. The model is available in configurations for different markets; the South Africa/South America specification uses a removable counterweight and Tier 2-level engine configuration, while North American versions can feature a self-removable counterweight and Tier 4 Final engine.

    Powerful 100-Ton Lifting Capacity

With a maximum rated capacity of 100 US tons (90.7 metric tons), the GR-1000XL-3 is well suited to heavy lifting where substantial capacity and reach are required. Its capacity varies according to boom length, working radius, boom angle, outrigger configuration, counterweight and other operating conditions, so the manufacturer’s applicable load chart must always be used when planning a lift.

The crane’s substantial capacity makes it suitable for lifting structural steel, industrial equipment, precast components, machinery, construction materials and other heavy loads.

    47-Metre Five-Section Telescopic Boom

The crane is equipped with a five-section, full-power, partially synchronized telescoping boom constructed using a round-box design. The boom has a fully retracted length of approximately 12.0 metres and extends to approximately 47.0 metres, providing a broad working envelope for both heavy close-radius lifts and extended-reach applications.

The boom extension system uses telescope cylinders together with extension and retraction cables. Boom sections are supported by wear pads designed to provide controlled movement and durability during repeated telescoping operations.

    Jib for Additional Reach

For applications requiring additional height or reach, the GR-1000XL-3 can be equipped with a lattice jib. Published specifications provide jib configurations from approximately 10.1 metres to 17.7 metres, with the maximum jib reaching approximately 58.1 ft (17.7 m).

The additional jib length makes the crane particularly useful when lifting over structures, placing equipment at elevated positions or reaching areas that cannot be accessed effectively using the main boom alone.

    Rough Terrain Mobility

The GR-1000XL-3 is designed specifically for demanding construction and industrial environments where conventional road cranes may have difficulty accessing the work area.

The carrier incorporates 4×2 and 4×4 drive configurations, with the driving axle selected according to operating requirements. The crane also provides four steering modes:

    • Two-wheel front steering
    • Two-wheel rear steering
    • Four-wheel coordinated steering
    • Four-wheel crab steering

This combination gives operators considerable flexibility when positioning the crane on congested construction sites and uneven terrain.

Maximum travel speed is approximately 36 km/h (22 mph), while the turning radius is approximately 6.8 m with four-wheel steering and 11.9 m with two-wheel steering.

    Hydraulic Outrigger System

Stability is provided by four hydraulic beam-and-jack outriggers, with each outrigger beam and jack independently controlled from the crane cab.

The outriggers provide multiple extension positions, allowing the crane to be configured for different site conditions and available working space. Published specifications give centre-to-centre outrigger extension positions of approximately 2.7 m, 5.5 m, 6.7 m and 7.3 m.

This flexibility is particularly valuable on restricted construction sites where full outrigger extension may not always be possible.

    Cummins Diesel Engine

The North American GR-1000XL-3 configuration is powered by a Cummins QSB6.7 Tier 4 Final six-cylinder, 6.7-litre turbocharged and after-cooled diesel engine. The published specification gives a maximum gross output of approximately 270 hp (201 kW) at 2,000 rpm, with maximum torque of approximately 730 lb-ft (990 Nm) at 1,500 rpm.

For the South Africa/South America version, Tadano lists the GR-1000XL-3 under a Tier 2-level specification. Therefore, the exact engine and emissions configuration should be confirmed against the serial number and machine documentation of the individual crane.

Advanced Load Monitoring and Crane Control

The GR-1000XL-3 incorporates Tadano’s electronic AML-C Load Moment Indicator system, designed to provide the operator with important information about the crane’s operating condition.

    The system monitors parameters including:

    • Boom angle
    • Boom length
    • Jib length and offset angle
    • Load radius
    • Rated lifting capacity
    • Actual load
    • Load moment ratio
    • Outrigger configuration
    • Boom position
    • Slewing range
    • Tip height

The system can also provide audible and visual warnings, control-related functions and automatic speed reduction/slow-stop functions during selected crane movements.

These features help the operator maintain awareness of the crane’s operating parameters and configure the machine correctly for the lift.

    Dimensions and Site Footprint

With the 29.5-25 tyres specified by Tadano, the crane has an overall length of approximately 14.375 metres, an overall width of approximately 3.315 metres, and an overall height of approximately 3.795 metres.

The crane’s relatively compact footprint for its lifting class makes it suitable for large construction projects as well as industrial sites where manoeuvrability and positioning are important.

    Heavy-Duty Tyres

The GR-1000XL-3 is fitted with large 29.5-25 34PR tyres, providing the ground clearance and traction necessary for rough-terrain operation. The heavy-duty tyre configuration complements the crane’s four-wheel-drive capability and multiple steering modes.

    Two-Winch Configuration

The GR-1000XL-3 can be equipped with two winches, providing additional flexibility for lifting operations and allowing the crane to be configured for different rigging and load-handling requirements. A typical 2020 machine listing specifies a 100-ton hook block and 7.3-ton ball, although the exact supplied equipment should be confirmed for the individual unit.

    Applications

The 2020 Tadano GR-1000XL-3 is well suited to a wide range of heavy-lifting applications, including:

    Commercial and industrial construction
    Infrastructure and civil engineering

    Why Choose the Tadano GR-1000XL-3?

The 2020 Tadano GR-1000XL-3 offers the lifting capacity expected from a 100-ton-class crane while retaining the mobility and flexibility associated with a rough terrain machine. Its 47-metre main boom, optional 17.7-metre jib, four-wheel drive, multiple steering modes, hydraulic outriggers and electronic load monitoring system make it a versatile solution for demanding lifting environments.

For contractors, crane rental companies and industrial lifting specialists, the GR-1000XL-3 provides a capable platform for projects requiring high lifting capacity without the footprint and mobility limitations of some larger conventional mobile cranes.

    Important Specification Note

The GR-1000XL-3 was produced in different regional configurations. Tadano’s current specification documentation identifies a South America/South Africa version with removable counterweight and Tier 2-level specification, as well as North American Tier 4 Final configurations with self-removable counterweights.

Consequently, the serial number, regional specification, load chart, counterweight configuration, engine/emissions specification and supplied attachments should be verified for any particular 2020 unit before purchase, transport or lifting operations.
